Species Traits

Nuri are venomous felines. They have venom glands on their muzzles and front four finger knuckles, these venom glands are protected by hard green outer shells. The hard outer gland marks where the venom sacks can be found beneath the skin. The glands on the muzzle lead to a second set of larger canines, and the glands on their knuckles lead to their claws, all of which secrete venom at will. To other creatures, this venom can be lethal, while to other Nuri it has less effect. The most harmful effect a Nuri’s venom can have on another Nuri is temporary paralysis, this is a defense mechanism as cubs of this species go through a period in which they can’t control their venom when it first comes in. This mechanism keeps rambunctious cubs that may bite during play from hurting those who care for them too horribly. Depending on the amount of venom injected, the effects of it can range from sickness, dizziness, hallucination, paralysis, to even death.Male Nuri are typically large in comparison to females, and very muscular. The males of this species have protruding claws, and their second set of canines are visible much like a saber-toothed tiger’s. The venom glands on these males are doubled in size in comparison to the glands on a female because the soft glands beneath them can hold more venom so that if the bane falls under attack, the males can subdue more of their enemies. A male Nuri’s colors are typically on the darker side, no matter the subspecies. All male Nuri have less fur on their tails than females, as well as shorter tails. They have half manes in most subspecies, though in some of the longer furred subspecies and in the Amalas, they have full on manes. Male Nuri do have feathered tails but their "feathers" are much longer and larger. The ears of a male Nuri in most subspecies are set forward, and their sclera are dark.Female Nuri are typically eye level with the shoulder of males. They have feathered tails, and while they are strong, their muscle mass is nowhere near that of a male’s. Female Nuri generally look way less intimidating than males do, though they can be WAY more dangerous. Most female Nuri have naturally set back ears, though they can be pulled forward to focus their hearing.Nuri, especially those who have decided to go rogue tend to find companions for themselves, hunting partners. Often these partners are birds of prey, but they don’t always have to be. A Nuri and its bird companion will hunt in unison. The bird will fly overhead to find food for the Nuri to eat, or water for it to drink. The bird will fly ahead, find the prey or water source, then come back and signal the Nuri and lead it in the general direction of what they saw. This may seem like a one sided relationship, but Nuri return the favor by protecting the bird and, if it’s a bird of prey, sharing the meal with its companion. This can often become a life-long companionship.Nuri can mate with nearly any other species and successfully produce offspring. Nuri cubs when born have glands, but no venom. Their venom starts to come in at around six to eight months of age. When it comes in, they can’t control it, and so these cubs can be very dangerous.

Subspecies Info

Yanin

Yanin nuri typically have very natural coat colors consisting of reds and browns. Their ears are moderately long and wide. Their patterns typically consist of spots that help them blend in with the shadows of the treetops coming to the forest floor. Their coats are typically medium in length with very fine fur with the only exception to the length of their fur being their tail which is a bit more fluffy. Their tails are typically a bit longer, they reach the ground with enough length that around 2 feet of their tail can touch the ground. The fur on their tails is so fine that seems to float when they move. This is the most common subspecies of Nuri. This subspecies can be found in wooded areas around the world.

Amalas

The amalas nuri have tan or yellow base coats, typically with darker brown, auburn, or black markings. Their ears are set forward and like most nuri, bald on the inside. Their tails are long and thin with a poof of fluff at the end much like a lion's. These savanna cats can be striped or spotted; they always have a dark line running from the top of their head to the tip of their tails. Thicker, coarser fur runs along this line, however, it’s only in the middle of their backs between their shoulder blades down their spines to the base of their tails. This subspecies has tear marks which help keep the sun out of their eyes. The males of this species are fully maned around their heads, necks, chests, and behind their elbows.

Sumlian

The Sumlian nuri are a coastal/Island Subspecies. They most commonly have bright yellow or black coats with vibrantly colored gradient markings. Their patterns are very tribal in appearance and typically include arrows and spots adorning their stripes. This subspecies is rather small, they have short, muscular legs and bodies. Their ears are shorter amd more rounded than other subspecies and the edges of their ears almost touch at the base to protect them from water. These small creatures have moderately fluffy tails, but they are shorter than the Yanin's, barely reaching the ground. The webs between their digits are a distinct feature as they are closer to water and have adapted to be excellent swimmers. They can hold their breaths for as long as five minutes at a time, and their eyes have an invisible protective film over them to protect them from irritants.

Aerath

Aerath Nuri have a very fine, thin coats of fur, ranging in color from dull tans, to blondes. Their ears are long, and thinner than other Nuri subspecies, their inner ears are lined with fur, longer at the base than the end to keep sand out of them. Their tails are long and thin, much like a cheetah's. They have long, lithe bodies and legs, and are very fast runners. This subspecies can withstand extremely high heat, they live in the hot, sandy deserts, and as such there is little to eat or drink, because of this they have adapted to not need as much food, the energy they get from food sustains them longer than other subspecies. Their skin and gums are thick and tough, which allows them to get to the liquid within the cacti in their climate with little problem in order to stay hydrated, it’s rare that a prick sticks them, or affects them.

Nygel

Nygel Nuri have very unsaturated coats of dense fur. Most of their bodies have medium length fur, other than the long fur on their cheeks and the tufts of fur at the tips of their long ears. This subspecies has short, puffy tails, short bodies, and longer legs. Their legs are well muscled, which makes them amazing at climbing rocky slopes. Despite having short tails, these cats have an amazing sense of balance. The nygel subspecies has adapted to handle the low oxygen levels of high altitudes extremely well, their muscles don't need as much oxygen to create energy, and their blood has become more efficient at carrying oxygen through the body. Their paws are moderately large compared to their body size which helps them to stay above the snow on the mountain tops.

Torilin

The Torilin Nuri are of the rainforest. They are known for their dark coats, but brightly colored eyes and bioluminescent tail feathers, which don't only glow in the dark, but in the light as well. This subspecies has long and very muscular legs. They have short fur and thick, muscular tails that are thicker at the end, but are completely sleek. Their ears are long, round, and almost always set forward. They are great at focusing in on one particular sound, blocking out the rest of the noise in the dense and lively rainforest. This subspecies is excellent at climbing and is extremely well balanced. Their bioluminescent tail feathers help them to attract prey. Their fur is sleek and smooth, which helps them survive in the humidity.

Zynyran

The Zynyran Nuri live in arctic climates. They have long thick coats, with typically dull unsaturated colors, mostly in blue hues which help them blend in with the snow. Their fur is almost always spotted. They have extremely long, silky, but dense fur on their chests, cheeks, tails, and hanging from their arms and legs. Their ears are more long than round, and come to a sharper point at the ends than the other subspecies. Like the Nygel Nuri. Their paws are very large, and help them keep from falling too deep into the snow. This subspecies has the ability to go for days, sometimes weeks without food in order to survive. These felines are heavily muscled which along with their long, thick fur helps to keep them warm in the frostbitten climates they live in. These nuri are the only subspecies that have fur on the entirety of their inner ears to help to keep them warm.

Mala

Mala Nuri typically have dark coats, and cloudy pupils, these cave dwellers have bright, luminescent markings and tail feathers. They are the rarest of all the Nuri subspecies, and are always pure bred. Their inner ears glitter just as the precious stones in the caves do, and they have a small gem embedded on their foreheads. The gem on the male's foreheads tend to be sharper, more angular, whereas the females are rounded and smooth. These nuri have been known to have the gift of sight, many of them are prophetic, and this gift of prophecy is believed to be linked to the gems on their foreheads. These are the smallest of the Nuri, and also have the largest ear-to-body ratio and large, wide, batty ears. Their eyes are large to try to help their vision, and while they can see alright in the caves, supplementing with their own version of echolocation, the light leaves them blinded.

Frequently asked Questions

How much do Nuri cost?

A myo slot has a 55 USD base price, and from there it's up to the artist you're getting the Nuri from as to what they charge for a reference sheet. For a custom from Magic the base price is 200 USD. The price may go up if you are wanting a Mala Nuri which for a custom cost 300 USD as they are more rare.

Can I make my own Nuri?

In short, no. Most people can't make their own Nuri as they are a closed species that may only be created by the creator of the species, Magic, or one of the MYO artists listed in the T.O.S at the bottom of the MYO rules section.

How Can I become an approved myo artist?

If you're interested in becoming an approved MYO artist, please send the following items to the Nuri FA Page via a note:Main commission account:Examples of full body front and back reference sheets:How long you have been taking commissions:How long it typically takes to receive a commission from you after you've been paid (Queue time):

Do Nuri have to have Venom Glands?

Unless they are a mixed species, the answer is yes. Venom glands are one of the primary traits of the Nuri as a species along with their "tail feathers".

Can Venom Glands be any color?

Venom glands can be any shade of green, varying from the yellow range to the blue, but they must always be green unless the Nuri is mixed with another species, such as an akinna or an amassi.

Can my nuri be mixed with another species?

Currently the species mixes that are accepted are Akinnas, Asbjorns, Amassi, Xuul, and Yadue. If you'd like to mix with another species (closed or open, real or fictional), this is a possibility, but only on a case by case basis, ask Magic! She's always open to discussion!

Can my custom nuri be mixed subspecies?

Absolutely! This is something that is encouraged to make your nuri as unique to you as possible. The only subspecies that can not be mixed is the Mala, which is the rarest subspecies. Other than that, you can mix and match as many subspecies as you'd like to at no additional charge!
